Suspense, Thriller

Don’t Lie to Me by Willow Rose

Eva Rae Thomas and her three children abruptly find Eva to be single and the children to be fatherless, not because of tragedy but because Eva married a self-indulgent man. She thought they had an agreeable home life. She had a career with the FBI, he was Mr. Mom. One day, he decided he had better things to do than care for his children. Maybe she should have seen this coming, but she was totally unprepared.

To save her sanity Eva moves her totally chaotic lifestyle and children to her hometown of Cocoa Beach. There she lives close to her parents. Her father is her anchor, and she has a very wary relationship with her mother. Eva has retired, so to speak, from law enforcement. Although, all her knowledge just seems to seep from her pores. When murder keeps throwing itself in her path, she is unable to just be a MOM and is pushed into contact with her high school boyfriend, who is now a police officer. Matt is a good guy but sometimes I wondered what his role was supposed to be. Eva was often telling him exactly what needed to be done to progress in their investigation. Yes, I found her just a little bossy.

So to get down to it this book is about Eva’s ability to pursue a child serial killer. There is great interaction with her children where it’s revealed being a single mom is not her calling. Also, the story is unbelievably suspenseful. I read every moment available and constantly thought I knew who the evil person must be. Wrong!!

  • Genre and general reading age: Suspense, of course, reading age 16 on up. Even teenagers might find this a suspense they would rather not endure.
  • Level of sexuality: Low.
  • Is there graphic language? Not much.
  • Did I laugh? Actually, I did.
  • Did I cry? Came awful close.
  • Is this part of a series? Book 1 of the Eva Rae Thomas Myseries.
  • Level of character development: There was minor change in some of the characters. After all, kids will be kids and moms will be moms.

I’m looking forward to reading book 2. Especially since this story deserves ⭐⭐⭐⭐.
